When a person becomes seriously injured, they may not be able to work for a certain period of time. If you were injured on the job, you may want to file a workers’ compensation claim. If you have had a successful workers’ compensation claim and you are out of work for a while, you may start wondering if you will ever be able to go back to work. Some people are excited to start working again but aren’t sure when they are allowed to do so. Like anything else, it entirely depends on your particular situation.

So, although there is no set amount of time that you have to stay out of work for, there are ways to determine when it is time to start looking for work again. In a workers’ compensation case, you will be required to go to regular doctor’s visits. At these visits, the progression of your injuries are monitored. When your doctor concludes that your injuries have improved to the point of being only partially disabled, or less than 100% disabled, you should take that as a sign to begin looking for a new place to work. There also may be situations in which the judge who has been assigned to your case determines that you are no longer completely disabled. If the judge makes this decision, you should begin looking for work again.

It is important that the jobs you search for do not do any further harm to the injuries you have still not completely recovered from. This may mean taking on a new line of work entirely. Speak with your attorney if you have any questions about going back to work after a workers’ compensation case.
